Live Well Health Literacy Class

Wilkes Literacy will offer a three-week in-depth health literacy course that increases participants knowledge of current healthcare topics, medical terminology, and standard processes and practices. This course will be a fun, interactive experience where students will build skills as they learn how to:
• accurately describe symptoms to a doctor and retain all the information given at your physician visit
• ask questions of their doctor and other medical staff about their diagnosis and treatment
• learn about reliable online health information
• hear about free health care and low-cost health care options in your community
• clearly understand medication instructions and know important questions to ask your pharmacist
• identify lifestyle changes that can lead to improved health and nutrition

Seminar participants will build confidence as they understand the health care system and learn skills that encourage healthy living. Live Well is presented by Wilkes Literacy and the Appalachian Regional Library. The October 2020 session will be a virtual session using the Zoom meeting platform. Participants can choose to attend Live Well sessions online through an electronic device with an internet connection, or class participants can call in to the class using any phone.

Live Well sessions will be Thursday, October 8, Thursday, October 15, and Thursday, October 22 at 6 PM. Sessions will last no longer than 1.5 hours (this allows for a short time for group discussion).
