Change the world by changing a life.

Wilkes Literacy needs volunteers committed to sharing the power of literacy with those in our community. We love our volunteers and provide opportunities to serve in a variety of roles. Our volunteer opportunities are very flexible when it comes to days and hours - we will work with your schedule! Here are some ways you can partner with us as a volunteer:

Adult Learning Tutors - If you have the desire to help another adult grow their literacy skills, we would love to train you as a tutor in our adult literacy one-on-one program. Wilkes Literacy will provide you with training and resources if you have the desire to serve as a literacy tutor.

Health Literacy Volunteer - Wilkes Literacy is looking for volunteers who would be willing to help with our health literacy workshop, Live Well. This would be a three week commitment to assist the teacher with event setup and clean-up.

Event Volunteer - Do you love meeting new people and would be excited about sharing the message of Wilkes Literacy? We would love to have you join us during seasonal community events as a volunteer.

Summer SEEK Volunteer - If you enjoy working with children and sharing the love of reading, then we invite you to join us for our summer reading program! SEEK is a half-day volunteer commitment and volunteers can work from one week up to four weeks.

Please note that all volunteers must agree to a criminal background check, an interview, and references must be given. Wilkes Literacy also provides clear guidance and training on our rules for volunteering with children before SEEK. All volunteers are expected to comply with Wilkes Literacy’s Code of Conduct.
